Believing this Scripture is still relevant, the congregation at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church is sponsoring Seeking the Face of God, a 46-day 24-hour prayer vigil. The group is encouraging all congregations in Wythe, Bland, Smyth and other area counties to participate in the prayer vigil which begins Ash Wednesday (Feb. 10) and continues through Easter Sunday (March 28).

“We believe there is power in prayer and that power strengthens when we join together and pray in unison for the same need,” said Pastor Joe Carrico. “We believe that having a continual prayer vigil during this sacred time will demonstrate our sincerity to God. Also it will let the world know that we are still trusting in God for our help and strength through His Son, Jesus the Christ.”

According to him, a total of 13,248 “prayer warriors” are needed to pray for five minutes each to complete the vigil. Churches and other Christian groups can sign up for an eight-hour (144 slots) or 24-hour (288 slots) block of five minutes each.

Churches may also make time slots different from the five-minutes each. They can arrange the prayer times any way that’s convenient for them as long as the prayer vigil is uninterrupted.

The following is a list of volunteers assigning prayer vigil times during February. Anyone interested in praying on these dates should contact the following:

Carrico added, “Our prayer is that folks will take this serious and people throughout our entire country and beyond will respond and that Almighty God will hear His people and heal our land.”
