One of the goals in Weekday Religious Education is for our children to pray every day. We teach the children prayer is simply talking to God. One key to making good decisions is to talk it over with someone who truly loves you and wants the very best for you and will not be too quick to judge and condemn you.
One aspect of prayer is asking God how to handle a problem we have and doing what He puts in our heart to do.
Our kids need to know they can tell God anything at all because He loves them no matter what. They need to realize they can talk to God just like they would talk to their best friend.
Praying isn’t hard work, nor does it need to be confusing or difficult. It’s being open and honest with your feelings, asking for advice and help how to handle questions and situations in life — also realizing God loves us and wants to help us make the right decisions.
We can kneel, stand, speak out loud or speak silently in our hearts. We can even yell sometimes when we are upset about our pain or confusion. We can talk as little or as much as we want, but its most important is to be honest, even when honest isn’t pretty. God can help us make it pretty by changing our attitude or allowing us to see the circumstances from a different perspective. Many times this helps us understand and forgive those we think are offending us.
We as adults can learn a lot from our children. Children have a strong faith, they trust easily. They are real and children are resilient — they will fight, forgive, and play again tomorrow.
We need to teach our children to be real with God. To listen to their heart and encourage them to look for God winks; answered prayers; times when God speaks to our hearts, encourages us in our minds, and helps us to forgive and guides us to encourage others.
At Weekday, we begin each class with a circle of prayer as we hold hands. We are like family. We tell the children they will more than likely spend many years together school in Morgan County. Hopefully, all of them have chosen to be part of the family of God.
As we spend time together year after year, we influence one another and hopefully help each other make good decisions and remain faithful to God. If we see one another make a bad choice, hopefully we will go to that person and tell him or her we are praying for them and want them to make good choices because God loves them and has a good plan for their lives.
We should remind each other we can talk to God like our best friend. Encourage that person to have a talk with God — to be open and real because God wants help them Remind them to listen to their heart and remember what they learned in Bible class. Remind them God understands will listen and that nothing is impossible with God.
Proverbs 3: 5, 6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.”
He will be there for all of us. We never get too old or bad that we can’t talk to God honestly. If we are sincere, He will make a way to restore us to a right relationship with Him and with others. These are all promises in His Word. We want to always stand on his promises He is faithful.
Let us leave a legacy with our children they are never alone.
We will be giving awards to our students this semester. One award is a red ribbon for memorizing sixteen verses this semester. The scripture written on it is Genesis 28:15 “Behold I am with you and will keep you in all places you go.”
Parents, let us partner together to teach the children the importance of prayer.
