So now what about when God tells us, ‘yes?’
A few weeks ago, I was inspired to tell you about God telling me ‘no’ to something I at one point prayed enthusiastically for.
I never thought it would be almost as difficult as when he said, ‘yes.’
You’ve probably seen the film ‘Yes Man’ featuring Jim Carey, (If not, I recommend it), the point of it being how it would be worse if we had an answer in the affirmative every single time. Yes. Every. Single. Time.
Maybe God wants to change something within us–before he changes something for us.
The experiences I’ve had from not getting what I wanted, have normally turned out to be more worthwhile and effective for the good of my own soul than what I originally thought I wanted.
Most recently, both my husband and I learned how not all who smile at you are your friends. Perhaps we wanted so badly to see the good side of someone, that we turned a blind eye to our own well-being.
But God wasn’t going to have that.
Cliche as it may be, when one door closes, another one does open– but only if you are alert enough to see it. If we are too busy dwelling on what did not happen, how can we see the opportunities for what could happen which might be right in front of our own eyes?
If it seems terrifying and exciting all at once–chances are it’s probably going to be good for you. Soldiers are taught how ‘complacency kills’ in combat. Though in peace, we have to be vigilant for good opportunities as well as obstacles.
Proverb 1:31: “So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way and be satiated with their own devices. For the waywardness of the naive will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. But he who listens to me shall live securely and will be at ease from the dread of evil.”
