Former Alabama running back Derrick Henry list of honors will grow a little bit longer when he travels to Washington D.C.
The Heisman winner will take a break from his training for April’s NFL Draft to give the closing prayer at this week’s National Prayer Breakfast in the nation’s capital, it was announced by Alabama Congressman Robert Aderholt.
"I’m pleased we were able to have this talented young man of faith give our closing prayer," Aderholt said via Facebook.
The prayer breakfast will be held Thursday, Feb. 4, and it is a bi-partisan event that has been held annually since 1954. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have traditionally attended the prayer breakfast.
Henry shattered almost every Crimson Tide rushing record this past season, helping Alabama win its fourth national championship in seven seasons with a win over Clemson in Glendale, Ariz, on Monday, Jan. 11. The Yulee, Fla., native rushed for 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns on 395 carries, averaging 147.93 yards per game over the course of 15 games.
Shortly after the Crimson Tide won its 16th national title, Henry announced he will enter his name in the 2016 NFL Draft.
