SAN BERNARDINO >> A community group and clergy walked and prayed together Thursday night to push for a program intended to reduce gun violence and homicides.
More than 30 people marched from the Diocese of San Bernardino Pastoral Center, 1201 E. Highland, to Ecclesia Christian Fellowship, said Sergio Luna, an organizer with Inland Congregations United for Change.
“Operation Cease Fire, which has reduced gun violence in Richmond, could stop the cycle of violence in San Bernardino,” Luna said. “They work with a small group of people and through a partnership with service providers, nonprofits and the faith community, they create programs and services to get them out of the cycles of violence.”
ICUC has previously pushed to apply the program in San Bernardino, while officials here and other local cities have expressed concern at the cost and other aspects.
Another walk is planned on the Westside of San Bernardino in late February, Luna said.
