JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) –
Members of a Jonesboro church recently came up with a simple idea to give law enforcement support through prayer.
"They do have a very dangerous job and they put their lives on the line every day for us," Stan Ballard said.
Ballard, who serves as the senior pastor at Nettleton Baptist Church, said the idea originated through Carolyn Reese and Claudia Weathers with their Prayer Room Ministry
"These two ladies have challenged us as a church to pray for all of our police officers in the Jonesboro Police Department and the sheriff’s department here in our county," Ballard said.
The two then gathered the names and information about the officers to place on cards to hand out to parishioners.
Ballard said the cards are a great reminder to give officers protection through prayer.
His prayer card is for Bailiff Larry Burcham with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Department.
"I keep it right here and I pull it out and I think yeah, Larry," Ballard said. "We’re all busy but it does remind us that yes, I need to pray for him."
Ballard said they will continue to have parishioners sign up to pray for an officer until all of them are taken care of.
He also encouraged other churches in the area to create a similar program to support law enforcement where they are.
